Boardwalk

I spent 1992 and 1993 photographing New Yorkers at various locations, in this instance at Coney Island. I was fascinated by the little worlds people knew to create for themselves even at the beach.
Sunbathing has always intrigued me as a curious habit. The sun has been important to every culture, and perhaps soaking it up could be considered a modern form of worship, making up for all the long hours spent under artificial lighting.
